Sr. Scientist - Hiring Now

Wild Microbes is a synthetic biology startup powering the next generation of biological manufacturing. We have some wild ideas. Our mission is to build a system where everything from plastics to proteins is made with biology, releasing the pressure on vulnerable ecosystems. We do this by developing new microbial chasses using cutting-edge technology from the Church Lab at Harvard.

This role will be a founding member of the scientific team, working directly with our cofounders. You will play an integral part in every step of the process: developing new genetic tools and microbiological methods, screening for promising new hosts, advancing candidate strains through selection funnels, and engineering top candidates to optimize for specific traits. It’s an opportunity to work across industries and take scientific ownership of challenging and impactful projects.

  • Onboard new strains, including method development, library-scale protein screening, and build-out of a comprehensive genetic toolkit for each species

  • Create processes for moving strains from discovery through to promising lead candidates

  • Implement experimental pipelines to bring lead strains through to pilot scale production

  • Build out and manage a team of scientists

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in the field of microbiology, molecular biology, bioengineering or similar or B.S./M.S. with at least 4 years experience

  • Expertise in microbial engineering with a libraries/selections/multiplexing mindset

  • Extensive domain knowledge of microbiology and/or microbial-focused synthetic biology

  • Bonus: experience working in alternative proteins or synthetic materials

Why you’re a good fit

  • Driven to overcome challenging technical problems

  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Eager to work with a growing team to change the face of sustainable production

We love working with a diverse team and strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply.
